Painting 365... Picture Update...

I promised pictures of my painting and boy do I have them here... Yep fully painted partially painted miniatures for your eyes. Work has been busy and tiring and I find that I really am not painting at the speed I should be to complete this challenge. Hope is not gone however and I will blitz as much as I can this weekend to get the following models finished.

On with the Pictures

So my Warhammer quota changed from 15 Skeletons, 1 Vampire, 2 Goblins and  an Orc to 20 Skeletons and 2 Vampires. This is because the Royal Mail (UK) and the United States Postal Service (USA) cannot take a package and get it to my door. So my Orcs are on hold.

I love the skeleton models from GW they are so easy to paint and I think they have a bunch of character. Pity these guys will probably be the last ones I paint in a while as the Vampires take a back see in my army importance.

I painted the Skeletons with the following steps:

1. Heavy Drybrush GW Dark Flesh
2. Heavy Drybrush P3 Bootstrap Leather
3. Drybrush GW Bleached Bone
4. Drybrush GW Bleached Bone and P3 Morrow White (50:50 ratio)
5. Wash with GW Gryphonne Sepia
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with light Drybrushes.

This gives a very gritty bone and I am sure that there are better ways of doing it but this is my way.

My Menites are built. They will not get their UA until I have finished these and the Battle Box. These were an absolute pain to assemble. Well it was actually going really well until the crossbows and shields on the backs then it took another 2 hours to get them to stay and I am not sure they will stick there when it comes to painting. I may need to pull them off and pin them in after the painting is finished.

So not as far as I thought I'd be at this point of the month but with 11 days left and 2 weekends in there I should be able to get the majority of these done. (even if that is just the Skeletons). I have to keep heart that if I finish these models I will have painted only 70 models less than the year before and it will only be February!

I hope you like these picture better than the Goblin ones taken last month as you can see in  most of the photographs I got a new light box so my photography skills can improve.

Thanks again for looking. Please leave any comments you have below. I'd love to hear your feedback. Looking forward to Monday's update when I should have a fully painted Vampire and his/her unit! Also Monday will kick off Project: Ulysses...

Merry Menothmas...

Welcome the the Iron Kingdoms... Again!

I have touched on why I chose Menoth in my previous post. I decided that I would follow the play like you got  a pair mentality from Privateer Press and give myself a merry little Menothmas. I bought the following from Miniature Market (and I will be doing a review on their service in the next couple of weeks) so it cost me significantly less than buying direct from Privateer:

This is what mad men do when they get bored on the internet...

On the subject of price I am a happy bunny when it comes to the price of PP's products here in the USA they are just slightly higher than their UK equivalents and that has made me happy with the prices even at retail especially compared to GWs difference in price which is almost double in some cases.

Anyway what did I buy? Here is a rundown:

1 Menoth Battle Box
1 Avatar of Menoth Heavy Jack
1 Scourge of Heresy Upgrade Kit
1 Grand Scrutator Severius
1 Reckoner Heavy Warjack
1 Redeemer Light Warjack
1 Vassal of Menoth
1 Full unit of Exemplar Errants with the Unit Attachment

I also had laying around:

1 Minimum choir
1 Heirarch Severius
1 High Reclaimer
1 Covenant of Menoth
1 High Exemplar Gravus
1 Heavy Warjack Kit
1 Blessing of Vengance

All of this is unassembled and unpainted (32 models in total and 71 points of Warmachine models not including the Warcaster points...)

Now this is a lot of Menoth but I need to get loads of models painted next year as I have set myself a challenge (More on that in a future post) so 32 models isn't bad...

The problem with having all this metal and a little plastic in front of me is that I did not know where to start. This can be a common problem with many war gamers is where to start when it comes to the silver/grey masses. After Twittering this week about my Menoth purchases I was able to get some advice...

Exemplar Errant’s are a pain to build and paint.

Despite this advice they also seem to be an excellent unit. So I have decided to paint the full 12 man squad first. Here they are in their blister/boxed glory:

It doesn't look too bad till you realise there are no instructions...

The reason I have picked these first is if they are a pain then the next models I do after them will flow easier. If I need to work out kinks in my paint scheme then I have 12 models to do it on. Lastly once I am finished I get to open this baby:

Kreoss looks really tasty in this box...
I think by rewarding myself with the battle box these Errant’s won't be too bad. So I'm off on Friday so I can build and Prime them and the Battle box for painting over the weekend. Can't Wait. The Impossible Dream just finished on the Privateer website with some staffers looking to paint 100pts in a month. I don’t' have that much but I wonder how much I can paint before the end of January when I am going on a gaming trip. Lets see together eh?

The new Casters waiting in the wings (Or Blisters)...

Thanks for looking. Sorry about the dodgy pictures I am getting a light box and a tripod for my next set of painted pictures so hopefully you will see a difference. Merry Menothmas...

Menoth... Protects?

Steampunk Religious Nutters eh?

In the beginning there was the Solidly built Khadorians with their ice axes and the one they called The Butcher then came along a lithe and quick Assault Kommando named Strakov (Oleg or Viktor depending who you talk to. Both were my go to guys when I played Warmachine back in Scotland... But this is the new world and that means a change of pace... (although all 3 Manhunter models will make their way into this blog at some point).

Holy Menofex Batman... Really cool Faction Logo!

Menoth saves and directs his fiery vengeance on all who oppose them. That is right I have chosen the way of the flame. The way of such greats as MenothJohn and Hierarch Severius. I decided on these hot miniatures due to my regular opponent playing them and now I am over 10,000 miles away I can totally steal his armies that I lost to when playing him. (for the record I am sure it was 50/50 in games honest Shaun!)

Not actually the finger of Menoth...

Warmachine's mechanics means that you can totally change your style of play by bringing in a new caster. I have ordered the Battlebox so I get Prime Kreoss and I Epic Severius. These 2 casters will work well with the battle box jacks (I think) and allow me to experiment with the play style of the army before adding more units.

I have chosen the following 15pts lists to get me started. Let me know what you think:

Pop and Drop!
High Exemplar Kreoss (+5)
Crusader (6)
Repenter (4)
Redeemer (6)
Choir Minimum unit (2)

Hierophant (2)

Total : 20pts

Leader of the Gang...
Hierarch Severius (+6)
Blessing of Vengeance (7)
Crusader (5)
Choir of Menoth Minimum unit (2)
The Covenant of Menoth (2)
3 Wracks (1)
Total: 21pts (And a tier 2 Theme list)
Overall I like the second list better. However the other list is nice too and at these small points levels I am limited by the models I have until I can up the points to 25pts or even 35pts. With most of my gaming being planned in 1 day bursts every month or so in Albuquerque I want to keep the points low-ish so I can play as many games as I can.
I do miss my Manhunters though... Looks Like a trip to the online store is needed...

Thanks for looking at my choices for Menoth. May Menoth guide your dice to sixes and burn your foes... (Not literally) Menoth Wills it...
